packin’ and waitin’

As my last week in this house winds down, I pack, I relax, I worry, I eat. I hate waiting for the uncertain. This is the worst and most stressful part about moving; not knowing what lies ahead. A huge part of me will be ready to settle down here in Houston into a job and get into another groove. Another big part of me wants to move away out of Texas to continue my life.

I am considering applying to Academy of Art College for graduate school. I am extremely interested in the computer arts program they offer for a master’s degree. I am also considering Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for a degree in Electronic Arts. Art Academy is #1 and RPI is #2. My biggest drawback would be getting enough money to attend either. I can’t afford to pay off more loans in my current situation.

I feel real sorry for all those people in the Northeast who lost electricity and had to either walk a few miles to go home or book a room in a Manhattan hotel. I spent four days in Denver this past spring without electricity. That was real hard the first night because it got really dark early and I wasn’t tired for many hours later. You really take what you have for granted and realize it when you lose it!! Luckily after the first night our neighbors invited us over to stay at their house for the remaining time because they had electricity. Having to eat anything in the pantry without cooking it, not being able to check your e-mail when you’re itching to, reading books by candlelight for hours on end, listening to the radio to hear what’s going on in Iraq after the war started; that’s just frustrating. It was just a bad time. On top of all of that, the next week I was off to LA. I basically had a two week break from school and spent half of it without any electricity!!

Man, how I am ready to figure out what’s next . . .

the search is still on

I went in for my interview today and although I’m full of potential, they were looking for an established engineer, someone who has traveled on the road and been through many different gigs. There’s really nothing I could have done to convince them to hire me. The best he could offer was possibly contracting work out to me.

So, the search is still on. I have one week to find a job and home.

You’re terminated

This weekend I was fortunate enough to see the first two movies of the Terminator. I had no chance when I was younger to view these movies because of two reasons:

A. I was too young for The Terminator. I think it came out when I was 5. How perfect would that have been if my parents brought me to the theater that young?!

B. Terminator 2: Judgement Day came out when I was in the 6th/7th grade. Yeah, again I was still too young according to my parents. Either way, I would rather have not seen the movie unless I had seen the Terminator.

So now, 19 years after the Terminator arrived in theaters, I sat down to see one of the great action adventures of our time. I now realize how ahead of its time the Terminator was. So many different special effects and cool visual effects that weren’t really used before. The same can be said about T2. Lots of great special effects that were cutting edge at the time.

I now will go see T3 in the movie theater!

I would say my biggest comment about either of these movies is how rather pessimistic about society they are. (Warning, possible spoiler ahead). The fear of a nuclear holocaust in T2 is to this day a very scary thought. The scene where you see LA going up in flames because of an atomic bomb hitting the city was so real, probably more so today than back then. I hope humans don’t resort to this anytime soon and certainly not in my lifetime!

These movies in their own rights were very controversial and for good reasons. But they had good messages about human life and how we interact with our neighbors.

On the similar line of controversy, I am very much looking forward to the hugely disputatious movie the Passion. If you click on the link, it’ll take you to a site where you can download a trailer and commentary by Mel Gibson. I personally don’t care how controversial this movie is; it will spark talk about Jesus and his life among a lot of people, possibly opening eyes and hearts. What’s aggrevating about this movie, however, is the fact that it’s 90% completed, or at least the filming is wrapped up. Why is the so annoying? Well, it won’t be released until mid next year!!! So we have to wait (build suspension as a possible marketing strategy as well as screening to all sects keep it politically correct with all denominations) until next year to even see it! Arg…

The Annex Live

I will be designing a page on here where *hopefully* you can purchase the new CD from me that I mixed. I will also put up some clips for you to hear the music and all that jazz. I received my complementary copy in the mail today and hopefully will be receiving 50 of the 500 CDs that were made! I am really proud of this project and the performers and I hope everyone will be willing to support me and the ministry by buying one!

It’s not as hot today because of thunderstorms but I there’s more heat to come. D’oh!

H O T

It was 104. It will be about the same the next few days. Why, oh why have I decided to come back to Texas? !!!

After being spoiled for the past 2 years in Denver and discovering places like San Francisco I am looking to settling down in Houston for now. Maybe we’ll be blessed with freezing temps this Christmas.

Trip photos

I have finally edited and uploaded the pictures for people to see! I couldn’t upload every picture because we took over 800 of them, however I personally selected a lot of them for your viewing pleasure. I don’t expect to get an overwhelming response but if you wanna see more pictures, let me know and I’ll put a few more online. If you want a raw picture at the biggest size, I can probably send you one of those as well.
