cheap gas?

I know this really doesn’t have too much relevancy, but let’s put the price of gas in perspective. We pay anywhere between $1.50-$2.50 across the nation at any given time. Yet, gasoline is still one of the cheapest liquids available! Just think, if we paid for the same amount of beer as we do gas (and some of us do!), we’d be paying around $9.00/gallon almost every time we fill up!! Man, a gallon of beer is expensive! And good beer is even more expensive… Time to rethink our priorities, eh?

weekly surprises

I’ve had a few nice, weekly surprises this week that I’ll share.

I’m surprised that the election finished as early as it did and that Kerry decided to concede rather than fight. I’m glad that he took it like a big man and conceded, but if the tables were turned, would Bush have conceded? My gut says Bush would have fought until the final count, just like what Gore did four years ago. But, either way, the popular vote and electoral vote was granted the W.

I’m surprised at how extremely well a software called HijackThis works. Last night I received an unexpected phone call from a really good friend who needed help with her computer. She accidentally, because she didn’t know, executed a program which turned out to be a trojan horse, and funny thing is that it was sent to her by e-mail and from the university to which she pays money for her education. I spent about 4-5 hours on the phone helping her immunize the viruses and send that trojan back into remission. I am not totally certain that it’s 100% gone, but I do know that we got her PC back to a condition which appeared as stable as before she was attacked.

I owe most of this success to AVG antivirus and HijackThis. HijackThis is a program which scans your computer in some special places that programs like spybot and adaware probably don’t. After scanning her computer and deleting files that were acting malicious, she had no more immediate problems. In fact, she has yet to tell me that anything else is wrong! So, go download HijackThis and run it today!

I’m surprised how much fun it can be to use a webcam and microphone with a friend online! We both have the same webcam and I bought a cheap microphone to use to talk to him over the Internet. It has been years since I’ve tried doing this, but amazingly, it’s a ton of fun! As much fun as it was, I’m also surprised that the delay in transmission between the two of us on our microphones really hasn’t changed since high speed Internet was implemented in most universities. That’s too bad because the quality is almost virtually the same as any phone you use. Many years ago there was a cool, free website called dialpad, which I believe now they charge to use their services, that would let you make phone calls over the Internet to any phone in the US. Way ahead of its time and it was increasingly popular among college students for many years.

That’s all for the surprises this week. I hope I receive just a few more good surprises because I love positive surprises!

back to work

I’m back in LA! After a nice 2 week break in Houston earning money to support myself, it’s back to the grindstone… oh wait, not yet. They haven’t scheduled any hours for me to work! I must be vigilant about making things happen now because being poor and having little money sucks.

bluebonnet.jpgI finally made a chance to check out my Brenham photos that I took a few weeks ago! There were a LOT of great photos and as soon as I figure out a photo system, I’m going to post them! Every time I go out to snap a few, I learn something new. This time it was my macro lens. I took some super close photos of the bluebonnets and it looks amazing! I really hope I find a photo gallery system that works with this website.

When you drive your car, what’s usually on your radio? or tape/CD player? For many, it’s probably a mainstream rock/pop/rap/r&b tune. For others, it’s likely an alternative like jazz, talk radio or country. Then there’s a few of us (including me on occasion) that listen to classical. Especially composers such as Rachmaninov! Oh, the beauty of his piano concertos!

According to a list developed in Britain, you shouldn’t listen to Wagner’s (pronounced Vahg-ner) Ride of the Valkyries while driving because of its intensity. It gets so intense that you might lose concentration. As silly as this might sound, I’ve been known on occasion to lose a little concentration because the song was so good I had to jam with it during my drive.

I’ve been lucky, though…

tv appearance

I don’t want to be too self-indulgent about all my television appearances that happen, however here’s my first one since I moved out here to LA. I mentioned it earlier on here but never uploaded it. So, as per request from Jonathan, enjoy watching my 2 seconds of fame!
(There’s a chance that the file might not work so please let me know if this is the case!)

insomnia

I should be asleep right now. I have insomnia. Although, my sleeping pattern has shifted to california time now so I stay up until 2am and wake up around noon, which I dare say is my normal sleeping pattern anyway. But don’t I have a new job?? Lol… certainly! However, I’m waiting to get trained. Even after being trained I’m not guaranteed more than 20 hours of work anyway. I really just want this job to be part time anyway, enough to pay for bills, food, and more bills. The rest of my time needs to be spent in studios working and going somewhere with my life.

I finally finished the trilogy this afternoon/evening. I went to ArcLight Cinemas to see the Lord of the Rings – Return of the King. I would have seen it after it came out this Christmas except all my friends went without me!! :o( It was well worth the wait, however, because this theater has become my focal point for watching movies. Every theater has THX surround sound and the picture and quality is the best anywhere. They actually have assigned seating, the ushers welcome you before the movie starts and they stay through the trailers to make sure that the sound and picture are the best that they can be. If you are out here and want to see a movie in the best setting ever, be sure to hit me up!

I hope to make some tiny layout changes on my website this weekend before many of you will see it next week. I have also updated my Who am I page and have been working to get a photo gallery up and running. Oh yeah, at the bottom of most of the pages I have added a nice little graphic that I believe is extremely appropriate knowing what I’ve been doing this past year.

amazing

He invented the lightbulb, the phonograph, and the battery. He held over 900 patents during this time. He spent his life with two leading ladies. He was a director, producer, and executive producer, and he starred in his own film. He was the jack of all trades. His name? Thomas Edison.

Wait, did I just say director, producer and actor? What the heck? Yesterday, while walking on the Hollywood Walk of Fame with Leigh (younger brother) and his friend Callie, we walked over so many unfamiliar names. However, one name sorta caught my eye. Thomas A. Edison. It couldn’t have been the Thomas Edison, right??
Dude's gotta star!
I got home to look on us.imdb.com and found out that, undeniably, Thomas Alva Edison was in the entertainment industry. However, probably not like you’d think. But sure enough, out of all the stars who you walk over on Hollywood Blvd., Thomas Edison was one of them. I never would have guessed in a million years.

So, as I previously stated, I took a walk on the hall of fame actually looking at the stars and taking a few photos of just a couple of the stars. It really wasn’t all that glamorous but I was just going along with the flow. It’s not really that much fun unless you know most of the people, and everyone who is more than a few blocks from hollywood and highlands is pretty much outdated to me. No offense to those people but I didn’t recognize 95% of the stars.

looking for a person or date in H-County?

This might be a really great post, a really sad post, or a really mean post depending on who knows what about this site. I can’t believe I found this. It is from more of my Internet rummaging.

This link, listing births, deaths, divorces and marriages, contains just about everything that happened since the 60s or 70s. It’s interesting to look through especially if you have family that is from the area or have lived here for quite a while. I even found some of my friends’ marriages a few years ago!

EDIT: I actually realized that there’s waaaaay more to this picture. Harris county is only one county out of EVERY county in the country listed on this website of statistics. If you have the google toolbar on your Internet Explorer (ha, assuming everyone who reads this uses IE…sorry Andrea), click on the Up button (yellow folder with a green arrow pointing up) and you’ll reach this page listing all of the states so that you’re able to go to any county in any state to see any data that’s available if you know where to find it.

So much public information online that it’s scary, but enough to intrigue me so that I post it on here.
